Adele Waltz – VDC-006

Inspired by a photograph of Fred Astaire dancing with his sister Adele many years after their celebrated stage partnership had ended, Adele Waltz imagines the music that might have accompanied one final dance between them—not as a public performance, but simply for the joy of dancing together again.

The work draws upon the elegance of Broadway and Hollywood’s golden age, the light pulse of the Viennese waltz and the lyrical salon-style violin writing associated with Fritz Kreisler. The title deliberately honours Adele Astaire: Fred frequently praised his sister’s exceptional talent and placed her achievements ahead of his own.

Adele Waltz received its debut performance in 2026 as part of the Sinatra, Streisand and Strings show.

Written for intermediate–advanced violinists, the music favours warmth, charm and expressive phrasing over overt virtuosity. Moderate rubato is encouraged while maintaining the underlying dance pulse. The optional double bass part adds warmth and reinforces the ballroom atmosphere, although the work is complete when performed by violin and piano alone.
