Australia's Musical Canvas is Vov Dylan's flagship Australian music initiative, created to celebrate the extraordinary diversity of Australian composition through performance, recording and education. Bringing together many of the nation's leading composers alongside emerging voices, the project showcases music that is engaging, accessible and uniquely Australian.
Since its inception, the initiative has led to the commissioning, performance, recording and promotion of works that continue to find new audiences both in Australia and internationally. KISMET: Vignettes for Violin and PianoA recital-style production celebrating a unique collection of works by Elena Kats-Chernin, many written specifically for Vov Dylan, premiered through the project, or receiving their first recording as part of the KISMET journey. Performed by violin and piano, the programme explores the composer's distinctive musical language through a series of evocative vignettes rich in character, atmosphere and storytelling. Balancing intimacy, lyricism and imagination, the music offers audiences an opportunity to experience a significant body of Kats-Chernin's violin repertoire brought together within a single performance. Accessible, engaging and emotionally resonant, the programme has appealed equally to devoted concertgoers and audiences discovering contemporary Australian music for the first time. The accompanying album became the highest-selling Australian original-content classical release of both 2022 and 2023, reaching No.1 on the ARIA Classical, ARIA Classical Crossover and AIR Independent Classical charts. LA VIDA APASIONADAA vibrant celebration of the music of Australian composer Dr Margaret Brandman, La Vida Apasionada brings together Latin-inspired melodies, rhythmic energy and lyrical storytelling in a suite that showcases the expressive partnership of violin and piano. Originally conceived for larger forces, the work is also presented in recital and chamber formats, allowing the music to connect with audiences in a variety of performance settings. Rich in colour, character and dance-inspired vitality, the programme reflects Brandman's distinctive compositional voice while exploring themes of passion, imagination and musical storytelling. The result is a concert experience that is both engaging for audiences and rewarding for performers. The accompanying album, launched at the Joan Sutherland Theatre in March 2025, debuted at No.1 on the ARIA Classical Crossover Chart, and No.1 on the AIR Classical Chart. Beyond the concert platform, La Vida Apasionada has become an important educational resource. Following its presentation at the International Piano Teachers Conference, the project evolved into a combined performance and workshop programme for senior secondary music students. The violin and piano adaptations from the suite are now listed by the Australian Music Centre as recommended repertoire for HSC Music students. | The overture / sneak peak at the main melodies of the suite featuring Vov Dylan and Composer Margaret Brandman on Piano. On 10 April 1912, RMS Titanic embarked on her maiden voyage. More than a century later, the story of the ship continues to fascinate audiences around the world, but among the most enduring legends is that of the musicians who continued to perform as events unfolded around them.
The Band Played On recreates the music, atmosphere and spirit of the ship's celebrated musicians through a unique concert presentation featuring Vov Dylan and members of Palace Orchestra. Drawing from historical records and repertoire associated with the White Star Line, the programme brings to life the music heard throughout the vessel's lounges, cafés and public spaces.
