Australia’s Musical Canvas
Australia’s Musical Canvas is a curated performance and recording initiative devoted exclusively to contemporary Australian composition. Over fifty works have been included to date, with thirty already premiered in full-length concert programmes at the Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Recital Centre. The remaining works will be launched in 2026 through the album and performance project Elevation.
Recordings including Kismet: Vignettes for Violin and Piano and La Vida Apasionada reached No.1 on the ARIA Classical and Crossover charts, and repertoire such as Margaret Brandman’s Jákara Rumba de More has been performed internationally more than sixty times in the past year alone.
Each concert presents Australian music exclusively, allowing it to stand independently within the recital tradition. What began as a practical response to a gap in available recordings for senior students has developed into a sustained performance platform in which contemporary Australian works are presented with the same artistic seriousness as established repertoire.
